Pools of 'Ohe'o

Large plunge pools are formed as waterfalls spill over ledges. In the over two dozen found along Palikea stream 'o'opu, a unique species of freshwater goby, can be found. pelvic fins of the 'o'opu join together to form a suction cup which the fish uses to crawl up rocks and waterfalls. 'O'opu spend part of their lives in the ocean and then crawl upstream to breed in the cooler, freshwater pools.
